Our client is a newly formed social impact engine that has created a partnership of foundations, social change groups, thought leaders, policy makers, artists, cultural centers, universities and coalitions. Founded by an entrepreneur and philanthropist, its mission is to build the infrastructure and support for these partner networks to work together and amplify the impact of each. At the core of the endeavor is a new multi channel media brand devoted to social impact, and a technology lab building a ground breaking open sourced protocol for the web. We partnered with our client to identify and recruit a leader for the media venture who could refine the vision, set the strategy, concept, point of view and tone, define key channels and content, and run its operations. We recruited a media entrepreneur who had created successful media properties from scratch, led the transformation of an existing media company, and worked with partners, editorial and production teams, and technology platforms to drive growth. Highly respected throughout the media industry, this leader is also a magnet for strong talent.
This was an exceptionally collaborative project in which we operated as an extension of our client team and our work generated important learning in addition to an extremely talented hire.
CASE STUDY: PRIVATE EQUITY PORTFOLIO COMPANY LEADERSHIP
A private equity client acquired a leading Planet Fitness franchisee from another fund focused on double impact. The franchisee operates clubs around a major midwest market and in Canada, with a mission to achieve financial return while providing access to fitness clubs in underserved markets. With the goal of expanding organically and through acquisitions the company required both a Head of Marketing with a strong performance marketing background, and a Chief Operating Officer with experience scaling another multi-unit consumer services business. We recruited a marketing leader who had created and led the highly successful loyalty program for a major automotive brand and a COO who had built and led large field organizations in the early childcare and senior care industries.
After acquiring a large multi-location early childhood education business from its founder, a private equity client required a CEO to build operational efficiencies and scale the business through acquisitions and greenfield development. We recruited a CEO with experience leading hospitality and businesses and a large ecommerce company. After a couple of years of outstanding performance, the company was sold to another fund and we were then retained to recruit a Chief Marketing Officer with a strong performance marketing track record. The company continues to scale and outperform competitors under the continued leadership of these two executives.
CASE STUDY: CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
A leading, global private equity firm required a strategic corporate communications leader with deep relationships with the financial press and the ability to build a team to support both the firm and its portfolio companies. We leveraged our strong network in the strategic and financial communications community to recruit an outstanding talent. Our successful candidate has since been promoted and now leads the firm’s marketing and communications team. After that promotion we partnered with him to recruit his successor and deputy, who previously led media relations for a premier boutique investment bank.
